You may have noticed, but the holidays are just around the corner. The time of the year when all webshops and couriers are tested again for their resistance to stress. Every year, the month of December presents major challenges in logistics. Last year, PostNL had to process 50% more parcels per day; normally 700,000 per day, in December 2018 more than 1,700,000 per day, resulting in the necessary delays. The delay could be up to four working days for some shipments. Not something you are waiting for if it is a gift for Sinterklaas or Christmas.
December Challenges
It is also a challenge for online stores every year to bring the month of December to a successful conclusion. For us it means all hands on deck and every department contributes in the warehouse to ensure that the orders go out the door. Really no one excluded, including the entire management. We therefore only go home when every order is packed. Also for supplies, there is sometimes a longer delivery time than normal. Unfortunately, this often only becomes clear when it is too late. Of course, our purchasing department does everything it can to manage stocks as well as possible. The same December challenges apply to suppliers.
Order on time
Although we do everything we can to meet expectations and deliver within 24 hours, this is a difficult period for the delivery drivers. Unfortunately, due to the enormous flow of goods, delays cannot be ruled out and in some regions we are talking about a few days. This is of course very annoying if you are waiting for a gift for family or friends. The best advice we can give is: order on time. Don't wait until the last minute, this way you exclude the possibility of disappointment as much as possible. If in doubt about delivery time, it is best to contact the seller and use your common sense. Things that are normal in eleven baskets outside December, such as delivery the next day or even the same day, are often a utopia in December.
